Islamabad: Sources say that the National Assembly will be dissolved on August 8 by the PML-N and the PPP. Both are two of the most important parties in the centre.
The current National Assembly’s five-year term ends at midnight on August 12. Four days after the date that both parties said to have agreed to dissolve the assembly.
Sources say that August 9 and 10 were also on the table. August 8 chosen to avoid any problems.
If the president doesn’t sign off on the summary, the law says that the assembly will disbanded after 48 hours. This gives the government enough time to reach its goal of dissolving the assembly early.
Article 224 of the Constitution says, “A general election for the National Assembly or a provincial assembly shall held within sixty days after the end of the assembly’s term, unless the assembly has been dissolved earlier.”
Article 224(2) of the Constitution says that if the assembly disbanded before its constitutional term, the general elections must held within 90 days by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“Our government will finish its term next month. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently said at an event, “We will leave before the end of our term, and an interim government will take over.”
Earlier, the PPP had asked that the assembly disbanded before the end of its constitutional term.
