ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, the Bhara Kahu bridge’s shuttering fell in the capital city, leaving two workers dead and three others hurt.
According to the initial report from the Islamabad Capital Territory Police, the pillar’s shuttering collapsed as a result of a truck collision.
According to the police, the public was made aware of the event and told to stay away from the path in order to avoid impeding rescue efforts.
The injured individuals’ conditions were described by the police as precarious as a rescue effort was being conducted at the scene of the incident. They had been transported to Polyclinic Hospital.
Several police and government officials, including Islamabad’s Inspector General (IG) Dr. Akbar Nasir and Chief Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal, were reportedly present at the scene of the incident.
According to the police, the district administration had requested that a larger crane be brought to the scene since it was possible that more workers could become trapped beneath the debris.
Mengal told the media that between 2 and 3 am, two to three enormous trailer trucks had driven by the bridge and had collided with the pillar’s shuttering structure.
One of the trucks was remained stranded behind the rubble, he added, adding that “Safety and traffic protocol was violated,”
Mengal added that a committee led by the deputy commissioner of Islamabad has been established to investigate all facets of the occurrence.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah ordered the swift conclusion of the rescue effort while expressing regret over the unfortunate tragedy. Additionally, he gave the Capital Development Authority instructions to identify the contributing factors to the tragedy.
The chief commissioner of Islamabad established an eight-person investigative committee in response to the directives to look into the situation.
