Webdesk: Sunwalk Group, a Chinese multinational company, plans to invest $2 billion in Pakistan’s telecom sector. It will focus on putting in place optical fiber cable (OFC). The company has already spent $5 million, and the next step is to put up 5000 km of OFC.
In Islamabad, a high-level delegation from Sunwalk Group met with Syed Aminul Haque, the Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications. Delegation was led by its Chairman Hou Xingwang. Moreover, During the meeting, the delegation told the federal minister that Sunwalk Group plans to spread OFC over 100,000 km in Pakistan over time. While, Sunwalk (Pvt) Ltd, a Chinese telecom and technology company, already has a Telecommunication Infrastructure Provider (TIP) licence in Pakistan and has worked on several communication infrastructure projects in China.
The minister and the delegation talked about the Right of Way (RoW) for OFC. The minister told the delegation that talks were going on with the Ministry of Railways and Highways Authority. He told the group that all problems with laying OFC would be fixed soon.
Moreover, The news of this investment is important for Pakistan’s telecom industry, which is growing quickly at the moment. The meeting between the ITT minister and the Ministry of Railways and Highways Authority should make it easier to invest more money.
