Webdesk: Xavier López, who was known as “Chabelo” in Mexico, died at the age of 88. His Twitter page said, “This is a very sad morning. Xavier Lopez Chabelo, father, brother, and husband, has left us suddenly due to complications in the abdomen.”
Chabelo was best known for his Sunday show, “En Familia con Chabelo,”. Said show aired for 48 years, from 1967 to 2015.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the president of Mexico, also wrote on Twitter. He said that he will never forget his son seeing him on TV.
On Twitter, while sending condolences to his family, the president said: “Hugs to Xavier López “Chabelofamily “‘s and friends on his death. How can I forget that over 40 years ago, my oldest son got up early to see him?”
Chabelo was the main character in about 30 movies. In the 1980s, he acted in kid’s clothes and helped start a new type of adult comics who dressed like kids and were very popular on Mexican TV.
People joked that because of his long career, he would live longer than other people in show business.
Jessica Nevilley, Xavier López’s agent, confirmed that he had died and said that plans for his funeral would be made public soon.
He was an American citizen because he was born in Chicago to Mexican parents. When he was young and moved back to Mexico, he became a doctor, but it was his work as an actor that made him famous.
The family said that the death was caused by problems in the abdomen.
He has a wife and several children who will miss him.
