Webdesk: Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar gave Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari a namaste. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that this was a “civilised” way to greet each other.
“In Sindh, we welcome each other like this,” said the foreign minister. He was in Goa for a two-day meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Other foreign ministers, like China’s Qin Gang, were also greeted by Jaishankar with a namaste. There was no handshake.
“Dr. S. Jaishankar never made me feel like our bilateral ties affected our work at the SCO FM’s meeting,” said Bilawal.
The meeting between the foreign ministers started Thursday night at the Taj Exotica Resort. The main talks took place on Friday, which is today. Jaishankar was in charge of the reception.
During his speech at the summit, Bilawal talked about a number of important issues. Such as the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. As well as Terrorism, the security of Afghanistan, and China’s role in bringing Saudi Arabia and Iran together.
He told the SCO members not to “weaponize terrorism to score diplomatic points,” but he didn’t name India. Before Bilawal spoke, Jaishankar said that terrorism is still a threat and that ignoring it hurts everyone’s security.
“We are all responsible for the safety of our people as a whole. Terrorism is still a threat to the safety of the whole world. “Let’s not turn terrorism into a weapon to score diplomatic points,” Bilawal said.
The foreign minister stressed that getting rid of this threat requires not only a “comprehensive approach” but also a “collective approach.”
He said that both the root causes and the threats from certain groups need to be dealt with.
