Lahore: Aaqib Javed, a former Test player, has said that he trusts Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain and that the pacer should lead the Pakistan team in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Javed praised Shaheen on a local cricket website and said that the 23-year-old speedster did something that none of the leaders in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) had done before.
It’s important to note that Shaheen led the Lahore Qalandars to two straight PSL wins as captain. “He won the PSL twice in a row. “His leadership of the team and the way he works are both admirable,” Javed said.
“Even if you bring Shadab, and no matter how you do it, I don’t see any changes, especially ones that are offensive. Or, if you add Rizwan, it won’t seem like the society has changed. Shaheen Shah Afridi is the person who can make Pakistan cricket better and move it in the right way,” he said.
Moreover, Shaheen is the only captain to have won two PSL titles and the only captain to have successfully defended the title. Both times that Shaheen led Lahore to the PSL title, they beat Multan Sultans.
“Babar should stay captain for both test matches and one-day matches. Shaheen should be the leader of the national team in T20Is, with the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in mind. “Shaheen has a positive attitude, and he plays cricket without fear,” Javed said.
Lahore had a hard time winning in the first four years that Javed was their coach. They were on the right track in the fifth season, when they played in the final, and again in 2022 and 2023.
