Webdesk: White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has revised her first statement on whether President Biden will spend all eight years of his two terms if re-elected in 2024.
Jean-Pierre initially deflected, claiming the President will decide. Jean-Pierre later clarified on Twitter that Biden will serve both terms if re-elected.
“Does the president plan to serve all eight years?” a reporter asked.
I won’t beat the president. He decides. Jean-Pierre answered, “I’m not going to get ahead of it, and there’s a 2024 campaign and everything related to that, I would recommend you to [the campaign].
Jean-Pierre’s initial remark followed Biden and Harris’s re-election announcement. Biden’s age and whether he would resign after one term were questioned.
“As you know, we take following the law serious,” Jean-Pierre tweeted less than an hour later. I didn’t want to go into 2023 more than the law allowed. However, if re-elected, Biden would serve all eight years.”
Biden’s Tuesday morning announcement video begins with images from the Jan. 6 US Capitol riot and criticises “MAGA extremists” around the country for “cutting Social Security,” “dictating what health care decisions women can make,” and “banning books.”
Biden’s campaign has a clear route to the Democratic nomination and might face a Trump rematch. Trump leads the Republican race but has not named a running mate.
Biden and Harris declared their re-election bids earlier that day. Biden’s campaign issued a video criticising “MAGA extremists” and praising Americans.
It’s not time to relax. Thus, my re-election bid. because I know America. “I know we’re good and decent,” Biden says.
“And I know we are still a country that believes in honesty, respect, and treating each other with dignity,” he continues.
That we don’t allow hate. We believe in equality and equal opportunity in this country.”
