ATTOCK: Former first lady Bushra Bibi met her husband and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in Attock jail on Thursday for the first time since his August 5 detention in the Toshakhana case.
Bushra Bibi and the former prime minister’s counsel visited Khan in Attock jail.
The two met alone for an hour. However, lawyers Naeem Panjotha, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Ali Ijaz Buttar were denied permission to visit the deposed prime minister, who was ousted by a parliamentary vote in April.
Panjotha said the Islamabad High Court (IHC) gave Bushra Bibi permission to meet Khan.
Despite court orders, the legal team was denied access to the PTI chairman, sources added. Lawyers remained outside the jail, they noted.
Sources stated Khan’s wife left for Lahore after their meeting.
Moreover, After being convicted in the Toshakhana case of misusing his 2018–2022 premiership to buy and sell state-owned gifts worth over Rs140 million ($635,000), the former prime minister was arrested from his Zaman Park home in Lahore.
Khan disputes accusations.
“Charges of misdeclaration of assets have proven against the PTI chairman,” Additional and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar stated.
Judge Dilawar issued arrest warrants and fined the PTI chief Rs100,000.
Khan’s motion to dismiss the case was also denied.
While, The former prime minister’s party wants Judge Dilawar’s ruling declared “null and void” by the Supreme Court.
The PTI has requested Khan’s transfer from Attock to Adiala jail from Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.
