ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umer Ata Bandial has given the Supreme Court workers a new Special Judicial Allowance (SJA).

After the approval, SC workers (BPS-1-22) will be able to get the allowance starting May 1, 2023. The allowance is similar to one initial basic pay on the Pay Scales of 2022.

“In accordance with the Finance Division’s (Expenditure Wing) O.M.No.F.1(5)R.12/81 dated November 24, 1993, read with Rule 4 of the Supreme Court Establishment Service Rules, 2015, the Chief Justice of Pakistan has been pleased to unfreeze the Special Judicial Allowance, which was equal to one initial basic pay of the Pay Scales of 2017, for the employees of the Supreme Court (BPS 1-22).”

It also said that employees of the apex court would continue to get a revised Special Judicial Allowance equal to three initial basic pays of the Pay Scales of 2022. This allowance would stay at this level until further orders, and the costs would be covered by the court’s budget.

The notice also said, “This comes out with the approval of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.”

CJP’s perks and salary

The CJP gets the highest pay, followed by supreme court judges and the president. The prime minister, on the other hand, gets even less than ministers and federal secretaries.

In the meantime, the salaries of supreme court judges are higher than those of the president, the prime minister, ministers, federal secretaries, and lawmakers.

According to information given to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) last month, the CJP gets a salary of Rs1,527,399. This is much more than the prime minister and the president get.

A bulletproof car and an 1800cc car are also given to the top judge. He or she also gets a government house and two cars.

Also, the CJP gets 600 liters of gasoline, free use of all utilities, Rs98,000 per month for rent, and Rs8,000 per day as a daily income.
