A new scientific report has revealed that Pakistan’s desert regions in Sindh and Balochistan may contain up to 10,000 tons of thorium—a rare metal with immense energy potential.
Thorium can be used in Molten Salt Reactors to produce Uranium-233, which in turn generates electricity. Experts claim just one ton of thorium can yield as much energy as 3.5 million tons of coal—cleaner and more efficient.
China is already building the world’s first thorium-powered Molten Salt Reactor in the Gobi Desert. With technical collaboration from China, Pakistan could build similar reactors to harness its own thorium reserves or import thorium from China to produce affordable electricity.
