Lahore: The previous ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), released a “white paper”. It is on the “one-year dark period” of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government on Sunday.
The PTI cited “poor governance, rising inflation and other issues” in its white paper.
The 51-page “white paper” comprises six sections. The document includes government human rights violations and economic damage and inflation statistics.
The white document also details police and Rangers’ operation at PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park mansion. As well as cases against the former prime minister and other party members, and detentions.
The “white paper” also includes NAB law revisions and election postponement.
‘Will take to streets if elections not held’
In a video speech marking one year since his dismissal, Imran Khan warned to protest if elections not held.
“Elections are the only way,” he remarked.
After dissolving the assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The PTI chairman demanded snap elections, which the Supreme Court (SC) ordered on April 4.
A three-member court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and including Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar deemed the ECP’s October 8 polls unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court found the ECP’s March 22, 2023 order unlawful. As well as without legitimate authority or jurisdiction, void ab-initio, and consequently cancelled.
“Neither the Constitution nor the law empowers the commission to extend the date of elections beyond the 90 days period as provided in Article 224(2) of the Constitution,” the judgement stated.
The government is reluctant to follow the verdict.
On April 6, the National Assembly rejected the three-member SC bench’s “minority” judgement on the Punjab elections and bound Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet not to follow it.
Moreover, The National Assembly’s March 28 resolution urged the Supreme Court not to “interfering” in politics. It further noted that various groups petitioned the supreme court to create a full bench, but only one political party heard in the matter.
Khan said that if “everyone is put in jails and our hands tied,” the government will not keep them silent.
The former premier added that 144 FIRs—including sedition charges—filed against him.
