KARACHI: At least 11 people died and others injured Friday in a factory stampede at the Naurus crossroads in Karachi’s SITE district, the latest event in which people died for free food.
People were collecting ration at a dyeing business in the city’s industrial region as part of Karachiites’ Ramadan charity initiatives.
Rescue and police sources reported eight mothers and three children murdered.
Rescuers told Geo News that six people fainted in the stampede. During ration distribution, cops reported a large crowd.
Rescuers say a factory nullah killed many people. Eyewitnesses also reported Zakat distribution.
Edhi sources reported nine bodies at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and two at the Civil Hospital.
Moreover, Faisal Edhi said the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital received all women, three of them were younger girls. Police told Geo News that 15 injured were sent to both hospitals.
While, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori asked Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon to report the incident. The governor mourned the loss of priceless lives.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah requested a report from the commissioner about the stamp. “Administration should report ration distribution and welfare efforts,” CM Murad stated.
