Webdesk: Ethan Hawke talked about how he always wanted to be in a cartoon movie.
During an interview with the magazine Interview, the star of Before Sunrise said, “As an actor, I’ve always wanted to get an email saying, “You can try out for the character in one of these.”
Daveed Diggs, who played Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, asked first, “You’ve never done a big [animated movie]?”
Hawke responded, “I’ve never done one. No one ever shows up.”
The 52-year-old added, “I watch all these films and think, ‘Oh, I could do that guy’s voice. Oh man, that should happen tomorrow,” Diggs said. “What are you saying? Now, this is my job.”
In other news, Hawke wasn’t sure how well the Before series would do.
“It’s not like I don’t want praise, prizes, money, and fire trucks. I want everything, but I also know how to listen to the river and to myself,” he said.
“I remember when I was making those films with Richard Linklater, like the ‘Before’ series or ‘Boyhood,’ I didn’t even know if they would be made. One part of my mind thought, “Oh, people are going to love this.” And another part of me thought, “No one will care about this.” I didn’t care. I knew I was interested in it, and I can hear that sound.”
