COAS General Syed Asim Munir stressed “every soldier and officer of the armed forces put his duty and responsibilities first. Regardless of regional, linguistic, and political prejudices and distinctions”.
He stressed at a General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi award ceremony for martyrs and officials that a strong army ensures national security and unity.
The ISPR announced that 51 officials received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, 22 received the Tamgha-i-Basalat, and two received special UN medals.
“Acts of gallantry during operations and meritorious services rendered to the nation” were their awards.
Moreover, The gathering drew prominent army officials and martyrs’ families.
“Undoubtedly, we are living in a free atmosphere due to the martyrs’ sense of duty and their great sacrifices,” Gen Munir remarked. He called martyrs’ and officials’ sacrifices a “valuable asset” and “source of pride” for the nation.
“The Pakistan Army, as an institution, always remembers every individual associated with the army and his family, and our relationship as a family is a proud and exemplary one,” the COAS remarked.
“Extremely saddening and intolerable” were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstrators’ days-long attacks on military sites and martyrs’ monuments after Imran Khan’s detention.
He declared May 25 “Pakistan Martyrs’ Day”.
