Webdesk: Oscar-winning star Gwyneth Paltrow testified that she was not at fault for a 2016 ski slope mishap. That was in Utah that left a man with a concussion and damaged ribs, contradicting the lone witness.
Paltrow, 50, revealed during cross-examination that she was skiing with her two children and was struck by Terry Sanderson. A 76-year-old retired ophthalmologist who sued for more than $300,000 over the incident at Deer Valley Resort in Utah.
Sanderson claimed “chronic traumatic brain injury” from the crash in court documents. He wanted $3.1 million in damages.
“Two skis came between my skis, forcing my legs apart, and then there was a body pressing against me and a very odd grunting sounds,” Paltrow added.
Paltrow said she fell on top of Sanderson in a pile of skis and limbs.
She filed a $1 counterclaim in Summit County District Court.
Paltrow, famed for her Goop lifestyle brand, questioned Sanderson’s friend Craig Ramon’s evidence that he heard a scream before seeing Paltrow hit the retired ophthalmologist.
She refuted the accusation, saying Ramon was 40 feet away and unable to determine fault.
Paltrow denied Sanderson’s claims that she skied off and failed to exchange contact information following an accident.
She said a Deer Valley Resort instructor who taught Paltrow and her family did not see the collision stayed behind to give Sanderson contact information.
Next week, instructor Erik Christiansen will testify.
Paltrow said she skied off just after Sanderson told Christiansen he was fine.
“I did not cause the accident,” Paltrow stated.
