Webdesk: 17-year-old Pakistani forward Abdul Hanan Shahid earned the Emerging Player Award in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Chennai, India.

Shahid astonished everyone with his outstanding skills. Pakistan finished fifth with two goals from him.

Abdul Shahid from Pakistan excelled in the tournament, which showcased young talent. “His exceptional performance and potential garnered the Emerging Player Award, underscoring his promising future in hockey,” the Asian Hockey Federation said in a press release.

Pakistan only won two games, both against China. They drew Korea and Japan and fell to the finalists India and Malaysia.

India won the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023 after overcoming Malaysia 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller in Chennai on Saturday.

The Blues won the final against Malaysia after a stunning comeback.

India started well as Jugraj Singh converted a penalty corner in the 9th minute.

Azrai Abu Kamal scored his team’s first goal before the end of the first quarter to tie the game.

In the next quarter, Malaysia scored two more goals to make it 3-1.

Moreover, Rahim Razie and Mohammad Aminuddin scored in the 18th and 28th minutes of the second quarter to give the visitors an advantage over the Blues.

However, India did not want to disappoint their home fans, so they charged against Malaysia and scored two goals in the last minute of the third quarter, with skipper Harmanpreet Singh and Gurjant Singh making it 3-3.

While, India’s Akashdeep Singh scored in the 56th minute to cap a stunning comeback in the final quarter.

Harmanpreet scored nine goals, four more than Pakistan’s Mohammad Sufyan Khan.

Moreover, India scored 29 goals, the most in the Asian competition, and scored 16 penalty corner goals.
