Islamabad: An Islamabad district and sessions court reserved its ruling on PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s motion to extend the suspension of a judge-threat case arrest warrant.
Senior Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran on March 13 in a case against the ex-premier for threatening ADSJ Zeba Chaudhry and Islamabad police personnel.
Following the PTI contested the warrants in district court, ADSJ Faizan Haider Gilani on March 14. Directed Imran’s attorney to provide security documentation and delayed the arrest orders till March 16.
Today, prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi and Imran’s lawyer Gohar Ali appeared before ADSJ Gilani.
Imran’s lawyer, Advocate Gohar Ali, asked the judge to allow the PTI head to attend the Toshakhana case hearing at the Islamabad Katcheri on March 30.
“You may keep the suspension of the arrest warrant; I may go to the civil court and request that the arrest date be altered from March 29 to March 30,” Ali said.
ADSJ Gilani replied, “What you are saying is weird. You want March 30, yet the warrant orders arrest on March 29.”
Prosecutor Abbasi said, “This would then mean that the court may not even dare to issue an arrest warrant.
ADSJ Gilani responded to Imran’s lawyer’s request to prolong the warrant until March 30: “The court can deliver any verdict on March 29.”
Advocate Ali defended his client by stating that the Toshakhana warrants also delayed till March 30.
“Did Imran Khan ever appear [in court] in the lady judge [threatening] case?” the judge inquired.
The prosecutor said, “Imran Khan has never appeared in this case.
He claimed that Attorney Gohar Ali did not have power of attorney in the woman judge case.
After hearing both parties, the court reserved its ruling on Imran’s request.
