Karachi’s rainy day: PMD

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Monday that Karachi expected to have cloudy weather for the next 24 hours, with possible thunderstorms and rain during the current monsoon season.

The Met Office also said that there is a chance of scattered thunderstorms and that it could rain heavily in some parts of the city.

The low temperature in the port city 28.5°C, and the high expected between 34°C and 36°C. The PMD says that the humidity in the air is at 78%.

The winds in the city are coming from the northeast at a speed of 18 miles per hour.

For the next two days, the weather in Karachi expected to stay mostly cloudy, with a chance of a few thunderstorms and rain or drizzle. On July 25 and 26, winds from the west and southwest will blow through the city.

The PMD also said that summer currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal keep getting into Sindh and the eastern parts of the country.

PMD said that dust storms and rain with a few heavy drops expected in Jamshoro, Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Noshahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, and Kashmore districts because of this system.

The Met Office says that there will be some breaks in the rain in Sukkur, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin. Thatta, Sujawal, Shaheed Benazirabad Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar. Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Khairpur, Ghotki districts and Karachi division until July 25 night and early July 26 morning.

The system and its effects, such as wind and dust storms, could hurt things like power lines, solar panels, trees, and food orchards, among other things.

Where in Karachi did it rain the most?

The Met Office said that in the last 24 hours, it rained in several parts of the city. With 20 millimetres falling in Sarjani Town.

There was 10.5 mm of rain in Quaidabad, 9 mm in Kemari, and 8.7 mm in North Karachi.

Meanwhile, 8.4mm, 6.8mm, 6.4mm, 6.6mm, 3.5mm, 5mm, 1.5mm, 0.8mm, 0.6mm, and 0.5mm of rain fell on Orangi Town. Korangi, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Nazimabad, Masroor Base, Faisal Base, University Road, Saadi Town, Jinnah Terminal, DHA, and Old Airport.

PMD says storms are coming

Meanwhile, the PMD said heavy rains may cause flooding in the local nullahs of Dera Ghazi Khan as well as northeast and south of Balochistan, including its cities Quetta, Zhob. Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kohlu, Shirani, Harnai, Bolan, Loralai. Khuzdar, Lasbella, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, Pasni, Ormara, Gwadar and surrounding areas.

On the other hand, heavy rains from July 24 to 26 could cause floods in places like Kashmir, Dir. Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, Murree, and Galliyat.

The Met Office also said that scattered places in Balochistan, Sindh, South Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and the upper parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could see more rain, wind, and thundershowers. During the time frame of the forecast, it is also expected to rain heavily in the south of Punjab, the northeast and south of Balochistan, and Sindh.

“The heavy rains may cause waterlogging or localised urban flooding in low-lying areas in Jamshoro. Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Noshahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Shikarpur. Larkana, and Kashmore districts today,” the weather forecasting agency said.

Farmers have been told by the PMD to plan their work around the weather predictions. The general public has been told to stay alert and take precautions.
