Webdesk: On the 15th anniversary of Iron Man, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, and Jon Favreau, the director, took a trip down memory lane. They talked about how the company started and how good it was to cast Robert Downey as Tony Stark.
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, talked about how the company started. “I remember on later movies—we’ll talk about those on the 15th anniversary—there were dark days,” he said. I would tell Robert, “We wouldn’t be in this mess if it weren’t for you.” This meant that if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have a studio. Or you” he said to Favreau.
Jon Favreau, in charge of the Iron Man films, talked about how he knew Robert Downey Jr. the right choice for Iron Man. “I remember sitting down with Robert and thinking, ‘He just gets it. He’s got that spark in his eye, and he’s ready. When it was him, things got a lot easier for me.”
Favreau praised Downey’s high standards for the movie, saying, “He had a very [high] bar he wanted to hit, because he didn’t want this to feel simple. He wanted it to be a big deal.
Marvel comics have become a worldwide phenomenon because they make a lot of big-budget pictures every year. But it wasn’t always this way. Comic book pictures weren’t as popular as they are now, and they certainly weren’t the kind that would make over a billion dollars at the box office.
But everything changed when the first Iron Man movie came out in 2008.
