Webdesk: King Charles relinquishes his Welsh home to reduce the monarchy.
After buying it for £1.2million in 2007, the monarch christened his “very special” farmhouse Llwynywermod.
While Prince of Wales, Charles visited Wales from Llwynywermod. After ascending to the throne and passing the title to his oldest, Prince William, the monarch will rarely utilize the property since his visits to the region will be less frequent.
Since Prince William received the Duchy of Cornwall, the King has rented Llwynywermod, a 192-acre estate.
Royal sources told the Telegraph that the King “passionate” about Wales but had opted to give up the land since its “unlikely” he could utilize it as previously.
One royal source called it “an issue that needs to be addressed”. He said conversations underway to increase public access to select sites to help pay for them.
Buckingham Palace revealed that the King had informed the Duchy earlier this year that he would be terminating the lease, which expires later this summer.
King Charles is also arguing with his brother, Prince Andrew, who refuses to leave the Royal Lodge, a 30-bedroom house.
