The 76th annual Cannes Film Festival started last week with the movie Jeanne du Barry, in which the Pirates of the Caribbean character 59 plays King Louis XV.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, the experienced actor’s 23-year-old daughter watched the first few episodes of her and The Weeknd’s (Abel Tesfaye) new HBO drama, The Idol, directed by Sam Levinson.
Lily-Rose told Entertainment Tonight how happy she was that her father got a seven-minute standing applause for his biographical drama.
“I’m thrilled for him. Lily-Rose gushed, “I’m so excited!” “It’s great that we get to work on projects we’re really proud of.”
The Finding Neverland actor’s first big on-screen role since his controversial defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard also premiered at the festival.
For the controversial series, Lily-Rose got a five-minute standing applause of her own.
She said, “It was the first time I watched it with someone other than myself, Sam, Ashley, and Abel, which is how I watched the first couple of episodes.”
“But that was crazy. It felt like a beautiful party and a culmination of everything we’ve been through together. It was a beautiful process in the show, and we made this little family together, and it just felt really, really nice.”
Lily-Rose Depp plays Jocelyn, a pop star who has just recovered from a mental break after her mother’s death. Many people didn’t like the show because it had a lot of frank sexual scenes and naked people.
