A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Mansehra’s Jaba area on April 4, where a woman and her 16-month-old daughter were brutally murdered—allegedly by the woman’s own family in the name of so-called “honor.”
Rabia Shah had married Mohammad Umar in 2022 through a court marriage, as her family disapproved of the match. The couple later moved to Karachi, and after the birth of their daughter, Umar left for Saudi Arabia for work. Rabia and her baby girl Aiza were living with her mother-in-law, Nasreen Bibi, in Mansehra at the time of the tragedy.
According to Nasreen Bibi, Rabia pleaded with the attackers: “Please don’t hurt my daughter—she’s just a baby.” But her cries fell on deaf ears. Both mother and child were killed with chilling disregard.
The FIR was filed by Nasreen and initially did not include sections related to honor killing. However, police later added these serious charges, which means a legal settlement or “compromise” is no longer possible. Authorities confirm that raids are ongoing to arrest the named suspects.
This gruesome double murder has sparked outrage and grief, especially as the innocent 16-month-old Aiza also became a victim of outdated, violent mindsets masked as tradition.
