Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice-President and Chief Organiser, attacked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a speech. The address was given at the PML-N workers’ convention in Rawalpindi on Sunday. Maryam called Imran a “coward leader” and accused him of hiding in Zaman Park’s “bunker” to avoid arrest.
Maryam also criticised Imran for using “women as a shield”. She was referring to PTI workers and supporters gathered outside Lahore’s Zaman Park residence. They were there to resist any attempts to arrest Imran. Imran has been living there since being shot in the legs on November 3 last year.
Maryam questioned whether a “coward man” could be the leader of Pakistan. She then referred to a fresh audio leak between PTI leader Yasmin Rashid and Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar. Maryam claimed that Imran Khan urges people to “fill the jails”, but he phones Dogar and asks if the police are coming to arrest him.
Maryam also accused the PTI-led former government of receiving loans more than the country has taken in the past 75 years. She claimed that only PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif could steer the country out of the crisis. She predicted that “Inflation and Imran Khan would be thrown out of the country together.”
Lastly, Maryam held former first lady, Bushra Bibi, responsible for the country’s current crises. She addressed the PML-N workers and conveyed that it would take a few years to recover the economy.
