Islamabad: The first Pakistani woman to climb Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain on Earth, was Samina Baig Sunday.
The 8,126-metre “Killer Mountain” has a difficult ascent made worse by unstable glaciers, avalanches, and storms.
Karrar Haidri verified Kiani’s summit.
“Today on July 2, 2023, at 10:18am, Naila Kiani scaled the majestic Nanga Parbat. Which is standing tall at an inspirational height of 8,126 metres,” Haidri said on Facebook.
He added: “She did this to become the first Pakistani woman to summit Nanga Parbat. Naila is one of the world’s best climbers, having scaled seven 8,000-metre summits.
She has scaled Everest, K2, Lhotse, Annapurna, G1, and G2.
