Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a great qawwal, is honoured on Spotify

KARACHI: Spotify improved their Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan playlist to celebrate Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day.

According to a Friday statement, a befitting tribute in the form of an enhanced and updated version of “This is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan” playlist showcases some of his evergreen hits that were still being spun with modern genres to create stunning compositions for audiences to enjoy.

“Even after more than two decades of his passing, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan continues to feature as one of Pakistan’s top streamed artists globally,” the press statement stated.

He is the 4th most listened Pakistani musician on Spotify this year, influencing generations of fans and singers. “Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hae,” “Afreen Afreen”. “Mustt Mustt,” and “The Long Road” featuring Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Veddor are some of his most listened songs. Along with his collaboration with worldwide producer Peter Gabriel.”

Spotify noted that modern covers and remakes of Khan’s songs demonstrate his influence on a wide range of musical genres.

The most streamed Khan remakes were “Lut Gaye,” “Mere Rashke Qamar,” “Kali Kali Zulfon Ke,” “Mere Baad Kisko Sataoge,” and “Dekhte Dekhte.”

Moreover, According to Spotify data, youth continue to keep Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s legacy alive. He has 37% 18–22-year-old listeners.

While, The audio streaming service’s second largest category 23-27-year-olds with 24%, followed by 28-34 and under-18 with 14% each.

Moreover, This year, Nusrat’s songs have over 5 million monthly listeners. The statement also noted that India, US, UK, Canada, and Australia stream his music most.

On August 14, the music firm will broadcast a tribute video with several modern musicians discussing.
