The Scratch Kitchen on Government Street was taped off as police gathered evidence. Mayor Kenny Holloway also attended. The institution was closed as an active crime scene, and yellow crime scene tape shut off the back patio where the incident occurred. Since the event, authorities have been investigating but have no suspects. Ocean Springs Police requested information on the shooting.
Abranee Goldsmith recounted the tragedy. After he fell, she attempted CPR. Goldsmith described hearing gunshots, hiding behind a table, and seeing the victim gasping. She administered CPR and an improvised bandage before calling the police. Goldsmith stayed at the scene after the victim died, indicating her desire to help. Ocean Springs rarely had similar events, she said.
Brittany Alexander, restaurant owner, added that the suspect may have climbed a nearby wall. Alexander said the shooter was not a customer but the deceased was. The restaurant’s DJ-performed patio is 21+ only. After paying the cover charge, security frisks all entrants and gives them legal drinking age wristbands. The incident occurred during a 200-person Cinco de Mayo party.
