Islamabad: Wednesday, Pakistan and the United States reiterated their commitment to boosting economic growth, energy security, partnership in long-term flood reconstruction operations, and overall relationship building.
According to a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the bilateral ties were discussed during a meeting. Said meeting was held Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Geoffery Pyatt. Mr. Geoferry is assistant secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources at the US Department of State.
In Pakistan, Pyatt is leading a delegation for the Pak-US Energy Security Dialogue. The Pak-US Energy Security Dialogue is a joint initiative to promote energy security. It is a forum for high-level discussions between the two countries. On bilateral energy priorities, advancing the transition to renewable energy, and exploring economic and commercial opportunities in the energy sector.
The prime minister praised the energy security promotion dialogue, stating that it would be good for both countries.
He advocated for additional investment in the nation’s energy infrastructure,. Noting that it would also facilitate the transition to sustainable energy.
Similarly, Pyatt praised Pakistan for its “advanced” renewable energy programme.
PM Shehbaz also lauded the ongoing conversations and collaboration between the two nations in sectors including commerce and investment, health, security, and climate change.
“I’m leading a delegation to Pak-US Climate and Environment Working Group meetings” Assistant Secretary for Oceans, Environment, and Science at the US Department of State, Monica Medina, who is also in Pakistan on an official visit, informed the prime minister.
She lauded “the passion and determination with which the Pakistani government responded to the aftermath of last year’s disastrous floods.”
Meeting
Elizabeth Horst, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Central Asia, Jake Levine, Chief Climate Officer of the Development Finance Corporation, and Donald Blome, US Ambassador to Pakistan, also attended the conference.
The senior American officials reaffirmed the Biden administration’s aim to expand economic and investment, health, security, and climate change cooperation with Pakistan.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Economic Affairs Minister Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Electricity Minister Khurram Dastgir, along with other high-ranking officials, attended the meeting.
