Webdesk: After nearly four days of political unrest following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest, in which army sites attacked, the military denied martial law.

I want to make it clear that General Asim Munir and the army leadership support democracy and will continue to do so. ISPR Director General Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told Geo News’ Shahzeb Khanzada that martial law is unthinkable.

The military’s top spokeswoman stated the army chief and senior leadership fully support democracy.

Moreover, The spokeswoman dismissed allegations that army officers had resigned because to the disarray.

“Despite all-out efforts of internal miscreants and external enemies, the army remains united under Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir,” Maj Gen Chaudhry stated.

“Army division dreams will remain dreams. The army official said no one had quit or defied orders.

While, Khan’s declaration came after his followers burned the corps commander’s Lahore home and attacked the army’s Rawalpindi headquarters.

After Khan’s arrest, violent protests killed over a dozen and injured others. Law enforcement arrested hundreds of PTI employees and leaders.

Moreover, The ISPR called May 9, 2023, a “dark chapter” after supporters stormed army sites. Khan’s detention had sparked nationwide unrest.

The ISPR termed PTI leaders “hypocrites” for inciting their workers against the military and praising the military to deflect criticism.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted Khan blanket relief and prohibited officials from detaining the PTI head until Monday am (May 15), after which the government indicated it might arrest him “if need be”.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Khan’s latest attack on Gen Munir showed his “cheap mentality” toward the military.

“His statement proves that he is the mastermind of May 9 events,” the premier added, criticizing Khan’s “baseless” charges against a top army official for plotting his assassination.
