Pakistan has expressed concern over the risks of military artificial intelligence (AI) at the United Nations, warning that its use in the military field could trigger new arms races. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, addressed the UN Disarmament Commission’s debate, stating that military AI should be prevented from becoming a new field of arms competition, which could destabilize global and regional security.
He further noted that the use of military AI could have profound impacts on global peace and security, and its deployment could undermine the priority of nuclear disarmament. Asim Iftikhar Ahmed emphasized that nuclear disarmament should remain the primary focus and urged the international community to pay attention to this issue.
