ISLAMABAD: Pakistan welcomed with open arms the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. China aided the normalisation of relations between the two nations.
Foreign Office Spokesman said, “Pakistan is confident that this significant diplomatic success will help to peace and stability”
“We thank China’s visionary leadership for its role in orchestrating this historic deal. This deal demonstrates the potential of constructive engagement and genuine conversation. We commend the shrewd leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and of Iran for this extraordinarily excellent development.”
Moreover, Pakistan will continue to play a positive role in the Middle East and the region, given its history of constantly supporting and coordinating efforts to bridge the gap between the two brotherly countries. We hope that this excellent action will serve as a model for regional unity and collaboration,” she added.
Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed on Friday to reestablish diplomatic relations and reopen embassies following years of tensions between the two countries, including an attack attributed to Tehran on the kingdom’s oil production centre.
The agreement, reached this week in Beijing during the National People’s Conference, is a huge diplomatic triumph for China, as Gulf governments consider the United States to be gradually receding from the greater Middle East. Diplomats have also been attempting to settle the years-long crisis in Yemen.
Joint Statement
The two nations issued a joint statement regarding the arrangement,.
Afterward, Iranian official media published photographs and videos. It depicted Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, beside a Saudi official and a Chinese official, identified by state television as Wang Yi.
“Once the resolution is implemented, the foreign ministries of both countries will meet to plan for an ambassadorial exchange,” Iranian state television reported. The statement claimed that the negotiations lasted four days.
Earlier, The Saudi Arabian government did not immediately respond to The Associated Press’ request for comment. Immediately after the Iranian declaration, Saudi state media began to disseminate the identical message.
High tensions exist between Iran and Saudi Arabia. In 2016, the kingdom severed ties with Iran after demonstrators stormed Saudi diplomatic offices there. The demonstrations were sparked by the execution of a prominent Shiite cleric by Saudi Arabia some days earlier.
