Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted on Monday that Arabian Sea monsoon currents will approach upper and central areas of the nation today (Tuesday) and increase on July 19, causing extensive rains.
As another fatal monsoon season begins, authorities instructed to stay “alert” during the projected period.
The PMD predicted rain/wind-thundershower (with heavy falls) in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch. Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore. Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal,
Rain/wind-thundershower also anticipated in Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella. Awaran, Musakhel, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan. Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad from July 19 (night) to 21 with occasional intervals.
The PMD advisory predicted dust-thunderstorm/rain (with isolated heavy rainfall) in Tharparkar, Umerkot. As well as in Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu districts from July 19 (evening/night) to 23 in Sindh.
It said that dust-thunderstorm/rain (with occasional heavy falls) is anticipated in Shaheed Benazirabad. As well as in Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Karachi districts from July 20 to 22, with pauses.
The PMD warned that heavy rain from July 18 (night) to 22 may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore and landslides in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It recommended farmers to plan their activity around the weather forecast and tourists and travellers to be especially cautious during the wet spell.
