Islamabad: On Wednesday, USAID and Pakistan signed a five-year bilateral Development Objectives Assistance Agreement for $445.6 million in grants.
Dr. Kazim Niaz and Reed Aeschliman signed the agreement at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Islamabad today.
Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and visiting USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman observed the signing.
The last development cooperation deal between the two countries, the 2010 Pakistan Enhanced cooperation deal (PEPA), signed 13 years ago. This agreement grants USAID $445.6 over five years.
Moreover, According to the ministry, this agreement will help Pakistan’s socio-economic development by supporting climate-resilient economic growth, inclusive and accountable democratic government, and a healthier and more educated people.
While, The development objectives of DOAG align with our national developmental vision, and activities funded under this would implemented in coordination with the Pakistani government, fostering a close bilateral relationship, effective coordination, and government visibility.
Moreover, USAID and the government inked this agreement after thorough consultation with federal and provincial departments. It reaffirms openness, accountability, and Pakistani organisation participation.
“While, The US is one of Pakistan’s largest development aid donors, working with the government, civil society, and international organisations on many programmes that support Pakistan’s priorities. The minister for economic affairs said the U.S.-Pakistan “Green Alliance,” which focuses on agriculture, water management, and clean energy, will help advance this alliance.
Moreover, The Economic Affairs Division secretary commended the US government and USAID for supporting Pakistan’s socioeconomic development.
