QUETTA/KARACHI: Afghan businesspeople are bringing in a lot of motorcycles made in Pakistan every day through the Chaman border because demand for two-wheeled vehicles is growing in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, you can’t buy a Honda CG-125 bike in Karachi because there aren’t enough of them on the market. This is happening all over the country, including in Quetta and other cities in Balochistan.
According to Dr. Attaullah Barech, a spokesman for Pakistan Customs, Quetta Collectorate, motorcycles can be sent to Afghanistan after all legal procedures are done. He also said that motorcycles and other goods are sent to Afghanistan every day.
He said that most Afghan traders were bringing in Honda CD-70 and CG-125 bikes, which are popular there. “In the last two and a half months, Afghan traders brought in about 3,000 motorcycles through the Chaman border,” Dr. Barech said, adding that the Honda CD-70 is more popular in the country next door than heavy motorcycles.
“In the last two months, I have cleared 2,340 Honda CD-70s and 590 CG-125s,” said Haji Imran Khan Kakar, a clearing agent at the Pak-Afghan border. He also said, “They bring in motorbike parts and put them together in Spine-Buldak and Kandahar.”
