Webdesk: A recording of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar discussing Pakistan-US relations was leaked.
According to the Washington Post, “Discord Leaks” shows the premier discussing the UN’s voting on the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
An assistant warned the prime minister that supporting the resolution could jeopardise Pakistan’s trade. As well as energy deals with Russia and appear to change Pakistan’s position.
According to leaked documents, Khar advised Pakistan to avoid appeasing the West. She warned that maintaining a strategic partnership with the US would compromise its original strategic partnership with longtime ally China.
“Moreover, According to one of the leaked documents, Hina Rabbani Khar, Pakistan’s minister of state for foreign affairs, argued in March that her country can ‘no longer try to maintain a middle ground between China and the United States’,” the Washington Post reported.
While, The US news outlet reported that Pakistani officials declined to comment.

“When the UN General Assembly voted Feb. 23, Pakistan was among 32 countries that abstained,” the media outlet reported.

“Each country is going to make its own sovereign decisions as it relates to its energy supply,” US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said during its weekly briefing.
