Lahore:
If India gets more monsoon rain, Pakistan may flood, said Caretaker Minister for Information and Culture Aamir Mir on Sunday.
Pakistan has been flooded for days due to severe rain in northern India. Pakistan also receives water from its neighbour.
Mir told a press conference at Director General Public Relations (DGPR) office said India’s Ravi Dam has grown by 90% and Bakhra Dam on River Sutlej by 70%.
If the province floods, the minister will issue a warning and assign monitoring duties.
Ravi, Sutlej catchment area fears additional rain.
After the rains, Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi called an emergency cabinet meeting to assess the water situation.
The irrigation secretary warned of further rain in Ravi and Sutlej catchments during the meeting.
Irrigation, PDMA, and administration are also on notice by the provincial cabinet.
CM Naqvi has also directed all commissioners to establish emergency security measures and warned that failing to evacuate will not be tolerated.
Rescuers have asked River Ravi sailors to stop.
Rescuers say Ravi is pouring 22,000 cusecs. Staff stated all necessary equipment, including rescue workers, is available to evacuate homes near River Ravi.
Staff stated individuals are still residing near River Ravi despite the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) alert for the next days.
