MANSEHRA/CHITRAL/PESHAWAR/LAHORE/PAKPATTAN: Within 48 hours, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s recent rains and floods killed 15 people in various districts.

Rescue sources confirmed three electrocution deaths in Pakpattan on Sunday.

Waqas and Ramzan, inhabitants of Purani Sabzi Mandi and Arifawala, electrocuted while swimming, while a two-year-old baby, Ayesha, died after touching an electric wire at Sikandar Chowk.

KP chaos

Five individuals murdered and over a dozen injured in Mansehra and Chitral, KP. However, rain-induced devastation in the districts destroyed houses and roadways.

Hafeezur Rehman, head of Rescue 1122 in Mansehra, addressed journalists about the deaths caused by rain-triggered flooding.

Five dead, over a dozen injured, and houses fell. District arteries obstructed. “The recent rains caused widespread devastation, so our teams are everywhere,” he said.

Late Friday night rain in Mansehra wrecked numerous houses and obstructed highways.

Rescue 1122 officers took six family members of Afghan national Samiullah to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital after his house fell on Chinar Road in Thakra. However, physicians declared Samiullah’s wife and son dead and hospitalised the remainder.

Ajwa Bibi, 12, and her younger brother Mohammad Umar buried alive when their Shinkiari Dehri house collapsed. After rescuing them from the wreckage, Rescue 1122 and villagers took them to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where physicians declared Ajwa Bibi dead.

When Mohammad Qadeer’s house fell in Lohar Banda, Mansehra, his family buried alive. The villagers took them to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where a doctor declared 9-year-old Mohammad Hussain dead and hospitalised four family members.

The rescuers also recovered the body of an unknown man who drowned in a stream in Chitta Batta after rains.

Floodwaters in Mansehra’s Oghi’s Dugai stream swept away two pickup trucks. After an incomplete bridge washed away in last year’s flood, hundreds of travellers commuting between Oghi and Torghar caught on both sides of the road, eyewitnesses said.

Safada and other district residences collapsed. Landslides blocked roads in Safada village, Siran Valley, Konsh Valley, and Kaghan Valley. The rain persisted periodically the next day in Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas, and Torghar districts, but no deaths reported.

Chitral affected

Flash floods caused by severe rainfall washed away about half a kilometre of Chitral-Shandur Road, cutting off the Lower and Upper Chitral districts. Gangoreni Hydel Powerhouse was inundated by Chitral River floodwater, and Chitral City’s residential quarters destroyed it.

The floodwater destroyed three trees and damaged the old Shahi Qilla and central Chitral hotel. Three houses in Ayun Town and two in Ochusht were demolished.

Kalash and Rambur valleys reported that Rambur Nullah flooding destroyed four dwellings and standing crops.

Chitral Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali claimed Upper Chitral had lost land communication. He stated that the district government sent rescue personnel to the affected districts.

He stated Garm Chashma and Dineen Road had opened and Chitral’s roadways were flooded, but no one had died.

From July 22 to 26, the meteorological department predicts more heavy rainfall across Hazara.

Lahore situation

Saturday rains in Lahore killed two toddlers and injured three people.

A 12-year-old child soaking in floodwaters near Babu Sabu in Sherakot drowned. Moreover, Rainwater drowned a 14-year-old child near Aik Moria Pul, Misri Shah. While, A Raiwind roof collapse injured a resident. Shahdara wall fall harmed three individuals.

On Saturday, a rain-damaged house roof in Dhol Ranjha, Malakwal, killed one woman and injured another.

Dhol Ranjha village’s house roof collapsed owing to strong rain, according to rescue 1122. The rubble buried 45-year-old Haleema Bibi and 50-year-old Seema Bibi.

Haleema died from critical injuries after Rescue 1122 removed them from the rubble. Seema was hospitalised for serious injuries.
