KARACHI (Web Desk) – At the Karachi Zoo, an elephant is having a hard time staying alive. Her health is in terrible shape. Since no one is paying attention to the hurt animal, things have gotten worse.
Even though Noor Jehan had surgery last year, her problem got worse and there is no hope in sight.
On the other hand, zoo staff say that the elephant is being treated for pain. The officials also said that the zoo wanted to work with the foreign animal rights group. Moreover, a global rights group called Four Paws would soon visit the zoo.
The project manager for Four Pawas, Marina Ivanova, said that the elephant is getting treatment. Unfortunately, that is not enough for her because she needs to be in a natural environment.
Before, the Four Paws suggested that the elephant be moved to the Safari Park because it was being bothered by noise.
Elephants are in danger in a zoo.
At the Karachi Zoo, Noor Jehan’s quarters are a muddy yard and a smaller cage where she gave kids rides for Rs20. There are no shrubs, trees, or places for animals to drink in this area.
Like people, elephants live in groups called “herds.” But Noor Jehan has only ever known one other elephant in her life.
The head of Paws said that elephants should have the five basic rights that all animals have. This means that they can choose when, where, and how they sleep, eat, bathe, hang out with friends, and spend their waking hours.
