The sighting of a crescent moon marks the beginning of Ramadan. The ninth month of the Islamic calendar. As Muslims use a lunar calendar with 12 months and 354 or 355 days per year.
The beginning date of the dawn-dusk fasting month established by both lunar calculations and actual new moon sightings. Ramadan, observed by more than 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide, is a month of spirituality and fasting.
It is said that the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed during this month (PBUH).
Ramadan fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam and is obligatory for all healthy Muslims. It is with the exception of young children, the sick, travellers, and women who are pregnant, nursing, or menstruating.

Wednesday, Peshawar will host a meeting of the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees for sighting the crescent of the Islamic month of Ramadan, according to Express News.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting of the central Ruet-e-Hilal committee in Peshawar’s Auqaf Hall, where the zonal moon-sighting committee will also convene.
The provincial capital’s Qasim Ali Khan mosque has also called a meeting of the unofficial moon-sighting committee.
