Islamabad: PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi arrested on Wednesday. Hours after PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, as authorities tighten down on the party’s leadership amid nationwide protests over Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
Police detained Qureshi for 15 days under Section 3 of the 1960 Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance.
While, The witnesses stated that Qureshi and Umar have been moved to the Secretariat Police Station in the federal capital, and police are trying to arrest PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry.
Moreover, Sources say the PTI’s top leadership imprisoned to maintain law and order. As they organise protests and other disruptions.
While, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad have called in the military forces to maintain order as party workers protest their chairman’s arrest in distant and major towns.
Moreover, Umar, another Khan confidant, arrested by the ATS from the IHC. It is the same court where rangers arrested the PTI chairman.
While, The Islamabad police’s ATS arrested Umar outside the IHC Bar Room where he and other PTI leaders were preparing a petition to meet with Khan.
Moreover, Eyewitnesses said the cops overpowered the PTI attorneys and arrested Umar.
After Khan’s detention, the former finance minister and other PTI leaders arrested in two instances.
Islamabad’s Tarnol and Aabpara police stations lodged the cases.
Moreover, Qureshi, Senator Saifullah Sarwar Khan Nyazee, and Ghulam Sarwar Khan with Umar when the CTD raided.
After Umar’s arrest, the three commanders returned to the IHC’s Bar Room.
Lawyers and party workers prevented the police from arresting Qureshi.
PTI leader Shireen Mazari protested Umar’s detention on Twitter.
“IHC premises ‘fertile ground’ for PTI leaders’ arrest,” Mazari tweeted.
She called Umar’s detention “seems like the IHC area has become a fertile ground to illegally arrest PTI leaders”.
