Islamabad:
All members of the National Assembly voted in favour of a resolution to make April 10 National Constitution Day. This is to mark the 50th anniversary of the Constitution.
The resolution brought up by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the House voted unanimously to pass it.
The resolution says that every year on April 10, the whole country will celebrate National Constitution Day. This will help people learn about the Constitution and how important it is.
It also said that the convention asked state institutions to fully follow the Constitution. As well as take “all necessary measures” to protect the rights and interests of the people.
The document said, “[The convention] calls on State organs to take all steps necessary to make sure the Constitution of 1973 is fully carried out and that the rights and interests of the people of Pakistan are protected and safeguarded.”
Taking “pride” in the history and legacy of writing and adopting the Constitution, which “enshrines federalism, trichotomy of powers, independence of the judiciary, provincial autonomy, and fundamental rights for citizens,” the resolution also stressed the importance of upholding the principles of federalism, which it said “one of the fundamental tenets” of the charter.
The prime minister stressed how important it was to work together and said that each party would run for office with its own plan. However, the Constitution gave them all something in common, so they had to fight problems together.
