Karachi: The Sindh government has told the province’s prosecutor general to file an appeal against the teacher’s acquittal in a child sexual abuse case in Khairpur.
Murtaza Wahab, a spokesman for the Sindh government, wrote on Twitter that the government would file an appeal against the teacher Sarang Sher’s acquittal as soon as the court gave a written decision.
“So far, the court only given a short order clearing Sarang Sher, who’s seen on video molesting the child. The leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal, is also looking into this matter. Will keep all posted,” he said.
Two years ago, a video of the teacher went viral on social media, showing him allegedly sexually abusing a student at his house in Khairpur’s Thari Mirwah.
On the father of the child’s request, the police then opened three cases against Sher, some of which involved terrorism.
But a court that deals with terrorism had the terrorism clauses taken out and sent the case to a district and session judge.
On April 29, Sher found not guilty by the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge-IV in Khairpur. Sources told that Sher and the child did not have the same DNA.
They also said that the teacher and the father of the child had come to a deal outside of court.
After Sher was found not guilty, a picture of him with a garland around his neck outside the Khairpur court went viral, which led to more calls for him to be punished.
