To prevent a whitewash, New Zealand wins the fifth one-day international.

KARACHI: New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 47 runs in the fifth and final ODI at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Sunday.

The Kiwis limited Pakistan to 252 runs despite Iftikhar Ahmed’s efforts.

Pakistan struggled to pursue 300 runs despite the right-handed batter’s efforts. Right-hand middle-order hitter scored 94 not out with eight boundaries and two maximums.

He scored 57 runs. After losing early wickets, Agha and Iftikhar put Pakistan back in the game with a 97-run partnership.

New Zealand wins thanks to Henry Shipley and Rachin Ravindra’s three wickets. Pakistan lost their top ICC ODI rating after this loss.

Pakistani bowlers bowled out New Zealand for 299 in the penultimate portion of the first innings.

Pakistani spinners kept New Zealand below 300 runs after a strong comeback.

Haris Rauf followed Shaheen Shah Afridi’s stunning death overs. Pakistan gained momentum with the powerful bowling pair.

New Zealand lost opener Tom Blundell early after batting first, but Will Young set the tone for the visitors. Young led his team with 87 runs off 91 balls, eight boundaries, and two maximums.

Young and Henry Nicholls (23) had a powerful 51-run partnership. Later, Young and skipper Tom Latham scored 74 runs. Latham scored 59.

Shadab Khan defeated Mark Chapman, who was on a roll. 43 runs in 33 balls.

Shaheen got three wickets, Usama Mir and Shadab Khan two each, and Haris and Mohammad Wasim Jr. one each.
