Washington (International News) – U.S. President Donald Trump has described Russian President Vladimir Putin’s response to the American ceasefire proposal as “incomplete.”
According to foreign media reports, President Putin stated during a press conference that Russia is willing to agree to a ceasefire, but Ukraine must meet additional conditions. He expressed support for the ceasefire proposal but emphasized the need for further discussions with the U.S. president on certain issues.
However, during a meeting with NATO Secretary General at the White House, President Trump characterized Putin’s statement as “hopeful but incomplete.” He added that serious discussions are ongoing with the Russian president and other stakeholders, expressing optimism that Russia would respond positively to the ceasefire proposal.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Putin’s response as a strategic maneuver and called for additional sanctions on Russia to compel it into an agreement.
“President Putin often follows this pattern—he does not outright reject proposals but creates conditions that lead to delays or make straightforward decisions impossible,” Zelensky said. He further claimed that Putin is preparing to reject the U.S. ceasefire proposal but is hesitant to directly convey to the U.S. president that Russia intends to continue the war.
It is worth noting that in recent U.S.-Ukraine negotiations held in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, based on the American proposal.
