Lahore: UN calls for investigation into alleged police torture resulting in the death of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker in Lahore. Ali Bilal, a PTI member, died during a scuffle between police and PTI supporters in Jahangir Town. Farhan Haq, UN spokesperson, stated that the incident warrants a thorough investigation.
Moreover, The UN emphasized that individuals worldwide have the right to peaceful protest and those responsible for attacking protesters should be held accountable. The UN’s head urged for calm to de-escalate the situation.
Farrukh Habib, PTI leader, addressed the press in Lahore and claimed that police tortured Ali Bilal to death. The police also fired tear gas, causing severe injuries to several PTI workers, he stated.
On the other hand, a spokesman for the Punjab government said that PTI workers started the violence at first. Because of that 11 police officers, including the Sabzazar and Township DSPs and the SHO.
