United Nations (News Desk) – Chen Xu, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, delivered a joint statement at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council on behalf of the Group of Friends for the Promotion of Human Rights through Dialogue and Cooperation.
The statement expressed concerns over the impact of unilateralism and emphasized the importance of embracing genuine multilateralism. It called for upholding universal, fair, impartial, and non-selective principles within the Human Rights Council, ensuring the protection of human rights through security, promoting human rights through development, and advancing human rights through cooperation.
According to Chinese media reports on Friday, the joint statement put forward three proposals for the healthy development of global human rights. Firstly, it stressed the need to uphold justice and fairness, respect the sovereignty, freedom, and territorial integrity of all nations, oppose interference in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of human rights, reject attempts to hinder the development of other nations, and resist hegemony, power politics, and double standards.4o
