Islamabad: For the second time in less than 24 hours, an emergency meeting of the federal cabinet has been called for today.
The meeting, which will take place at Parliament House at 1 p.m. today, comes right before the Supreme Court announces its high-stakes decision in the closely watched election delay case.
The meeting, which will be led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, does not yet have an official schedule. But sources said that the political situation of the country as a whole would be talked about.
This will be the second meeting in a row. The last one was on Monday night at 8 o’clock. During the meeting, the federal cabinet decided to fire SC Registrar Ishrat Ali. This was in response to a letter from Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who asked the cabinet to fire him.
The meeting was mostly about two things. Minister for Law Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan both gave detailed reports.
The registrar sent out a circular against the order of the Supreme Court. This was talked about. The registrar was told to go to the Establishment Division.
The cabinet also asked President Dr. Arif Alvi to sign the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023 right away in order to end the constitutional and political crisis that the country is going through right now.
