Webdesk: Wagner Group head Yevgeny Prigozhin has made bombshell charges that the Russian military deliberately assaulted his forces with lethal missile attacks.
He threatened to respond and urged fellow Russians to punish Moscow’s military leadership. The claims sparked a criminal inquiry and escalated Russia’s power struggle.
The Kremlin reacted to Prigozhin’s revelations. The official statement says President Vladimir Putin is aware and taking action. The FSB security service is also investigating calls for “armed mutiny.”
Prigozhin’s spokespeople broadcast furious audio messages accusing the Russian military of missile strikes on their rear camps, which killed several of his fighters. He urged Russians to unify against the “evil” military leadership. He said their march for justice is not a military takeover but an accountability drive.
Moreover, Prigozhin blamed Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov for his fighters’ deaths. He accused Moscow’s military elite of tricking President Putin and starting the Ukraine war for self-promotion and wealth.
While, The Russian Defence Ministry quickly dismissed the charges as misinformation and provocation. They noted that Russian military continue fighting in Ukraine. The National Anti-Terror Committee demanded an immediate end to criminal activity.
Prigozhin’s bold stance has positioned him as a prominent figure in Russian politics, but he has refrained from directly criticising President Putin, aiming to maintain his advantageous relationship with the leader. Prigozhin may be trying the political system to garner popular acceptance after Ukraine’s failures.
Moreover, Prigozhin’s fight for justice against the Russian military is questionable. The country’s infighting and his criminal inquiry show the intricacy of power dynamics. The discoveries affect Prigozhin and the Russian military’s future.
