Karachi: City’s weather is likely to stay nice all day today (Sunday), even though the city will be covered in dark clouds and there is a chance of rain in the next 24 hours.
Under the current monsoon system, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the city will get light rain or drizzle in the evening or at night.
The Met Office says that heavy to moderate rain expected to fall in Karachi and the rest of the country until today, July 30.
According to PMD, the temperature has gone as low as 28°C in the last 24 hours and expected to reach 34°C in the next. It said that winds from the southwest are blowing at 28 kilometres per hour and that the humidity in Karachi is 77%.
South Asia gets 70% to 80% of its average rainfall between June and September, when the monsoon winds bring rain.
The monsoon storms are both good and bad for the area.
On the one hand, they are important for the jobs of millions of farmers and the food security of an area with about two billion people. On the other hand, they cause rivers and landslides.
A report from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) says that since the monsoon started on June 25, more than 150 people have died and hundreds more have been hurt in rain-related accidents. Most of the deaths and injuries have happened in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
