LAHORE: Former prime minister Imran Khan mocked the ruling coalition for declaring they would not accept the CJP-led bench’s decision to dissolve Punjab and KP’s provincial assembly within 90 days.
He said Pakistan facing a “defining” moment and implored his followers, especially the legal community, to safeguard the Constitution.
Since the chief justice denied PDM’s request for a full bench, Mr. Khan wondered if the ruling coalition would only “accept the verdicts that are favourable to them.”
Mr. Khan asked the alliance why postponing polls until October would benefit the country. I know this crooked cabal’s benefits. “They are delaying elections hoping to demolish the PTI or finish Imran Khan, but what would Pakistan get?” he said. Will political turmoil boost the economy?
“The law and order excuse is a matter of few blasts here and there and they may delay the polls again,” he said of rising militancy.
The PTI head warned of a “lawless state” if polls delayed beyond 90 days. “The law of the jungle reigns when the constitution breached. “We would not allow that,” the former premier added.
Imran Khan stated the Supreme Court would interpret the Constitution, not decide elections.
The PTI chairman asked why the PDM not complain when the court opened at midnight “after I had dissolved the legislature and called for elections” after the top court implemented the no-confidence resolution against his administration in April last year.
Suo Motu
Moreover, He said, “In the suo motu, our dissolution [of National Assembly] and elections were refused. Mr. Khan said the government opposed the three-member bench because they feared losing elections.
Pakistan is at a turning point. The Constitution and legislation must upheld. The lawyer community has a specific role to play in the current circumstances… [they have] responsibility to preserve constitutionality and legality of the nation,” the former PM said.
While, Imran Khan told journalists at his Zaman Park home that the PTI will protest if elections delayed beyond 90 days.
Moreover, He denied that President Arif Alvi was mediating between the PTI and the military. Mr. Khan claimed that ex-army head Qamar Javed Bajwa wanted a “good relationship” with India, which led to their split.
