Webdesk: Joyland, Pakistan’s most controversial film, premiered at the Habitat International Film Festival in Delhi this week. Since then, many Indian Twitter users have praised the Saim Sadiq film.
“Pakistanis don’t realize your country’s masterpiece. If Joyland had been an Indian film, I would have been very proud!” wrote one microblogger.
“Delhi’s Joyland showing last night was wonderful. People in line for a Pakistani film that poetically addresses patriarchy and loneliness. In awe, people clapped and cried. Art overcomes pain and borders, “a tweet.
Another user called the premiere “magical experience,” and said people “still can’t get over” seeing Joyland on the big screen. “Never seen the crowd get this hyped, laugh and cry together for a movie before,” the Twitter user said.
More people described Joyland. “Delhiers who watched Joyland yesterday, hugs. The video broke me and filled me with love, joy, and pain “Tweeted one. “Joyland is a fantastic, heartbreaking, and beautifully made film,” said another.
However, several users grasped their chance and pointed out that Joyland is lauded in India while its own people have rejected it. “Joyland getting praised across the border, but people in Lahore are still deprived of good cinema because of the petty ego of a few men,” tweeted one user.
